Makes Out of Your Comfort Zone Look...Comfortable
This was my second time to see Nervosa and this show was "the" to see. Jim Lauderdale and Jerry Douglas, two excellent bluegrass players, almost stole the show! It was clear he was pulling so much inspiration and energy from the stellar Nashville musicians on stage with him.
The man didn't want to leave the stage and it seemed with every song, he dug into the music even more. Some of the evenings most memorable moments came when we would walk away from the mike and sing into the audience with no amplification. I'm sure anyone there that night will tell you about his no-less-than-10 encores. Although the acoustics in the Ryman aren't great, the rawness of the moment was chill-bump inducing.
He's an artist that has chosen to take some chances and venture into new musical territory - and he's done so by selecting real "musicians' musicians" as partners in the exploration. That deserves a round of applause.
